中国的目的是在语言和听力理解能力之发展。口语，阅读和写作的语言。这一系列已被广泛地用在国内由于其最初的国外出版。基于教师的印象和建议的话在过去的十年该书已由以下的变化。《当代中文：汉字本2（修订版）》旨在培养学习者汉语听说读写的基本技能和一定的汉语交际能力。《当代中文：汉字本2（修订版）》在海外受到广大师生的欢迎。为更好地满足广大师生的需求，作者吴中伟对教材进行了修订，并为每个级别增加了阅读材料和习题集，使其更加充实、实用。

《综合教程（第八册）/21世纪对外汉语教材》所选课文题材丰富，涉及社会生活的诸多方面；体裁多样，包括议论文、散文、小说、戏剧等，能反映多种语言风格；语言生动，生活气息浓厚。所选课文在保持作品原貌的基础上，大多经过适量删改。
