凝聚态场论(德)奥特兰德Theoretical condensed matter physics draws heavily and increasingly on the language of quantum field theory. This primer is aimed at elevating graduate students of condensed matter physics to a level where they can engage in independent research. It emphasizes the development of modem methods of classical and quantum field theory with applications of interest in both experimental and theoretical condensed matter physics. Topics covered include second quantization, path and functional field integration, mean-field theory and collective phenomena, the renormalization group, and topology. Conceptual aspects and formal methodology are emphasized and developed, but the discussion is rooted firmly in practical experimental application. As well as routine exercises, the text includes extended and challenging problems, with fully worked solutions, designed to provide a bridge between formal manipulations and research-oriented thinking. -

There is a tradition of research and teaching in inelasticity at Stanford that goes back at least to Wilhelm Flugge and Erastus Lee.I joined the faculty in 1980, and shortly thereafter the Chairman of the Applied Mechanics Division, George Herrmann, asked me to present a course in plasticity.I decided to develop a new two-quarter sequence entitled Theoretical and Computational Plasticity which combined the basic theory I had learned as a graduate student at the University of California at Berkeley from David Bogy, James Kelly,Jacob Lubliner, and Paul Naghdi with new computational techniques from the finite-element literature and my personal research. I taught the course a couple of times and developed a set of notes that 1 passed on to Juan Simo when he joined the faculty in 1985.1 was Chairman at that time and I asked Juan to furthdr develop the course into a full year covering inelasticity from a more comprehensive per-spectiye. -

We hope that this book will help to meet this need. To give a comprehensive account of such a vast topic as string theory would scarcely be possible,even in two volumes with the length to which these have grown. Indeed,we have had to omit many important subjects, while treating others only sketchily. String field theory is omitted entirely (though the subject of chapter 11 is closely related to light-cone string field theory). Conformal field theory is not developed systematically, though much of the background material needed to understand recent papers on this subject is presented in chapter 3 and elsewhere. -
