  Xiaolangdi water conservancy project of the Yellow River is located in Xiaolangdi,Mengjin county,Luoyang city,Henan province,at the exit of the last Canyon in the middle reaches of the Yellow River to the north of Luoyang city,40 km away from Luoyang city in the south.Xiaolangdi Reservoir of the Yellow River is located in the lower part of the middle reaches of the Yellow River,130 km away from Sanmenxia water conservancy project on the top and 128 km away from Huayuankou,Zhengzhou,Henan Province on the bottom.Xiaolangdi Reservoir of the Yellow River is a large-scale comprehensive water conservancy project on the main stream of the Yellow River,which integrates sediment reduction,flood control,ice prevention,water supply and irrigation,power generation,storage,clearing and discharge of muddy water,eliminating harm and promoting profit,and it is the key project for harnessing and developing the Yellow River.Xiaolangdi water conservancy project is one of the most complex water conservancy projects in the world,which has important strategic position,large-scale project,complex geological conditions,spe water and sediment conditions and strict application requirements.It is the most challenging project.The control drainage area above the dam site of the reservoir is 694200 km2,accounting for 92.3% of the Yellow River drainage area.The flood control standard of Huayuankou in the lower reaches of the Yellow River has been raised from once in 60 years to once in 1 000 years,which basically relieves the threat of ice flood in the lower reaches of the Yellow River and slows down the deposition of the lower reaches of the river.Xiaolangdi is the only control project under Sanmenxia,the main stream of the Yellow River,which can obtain large storage capacity.It is in the key position of connecting the upstream and the downstream to control the water and sediment volume.
