本书根据*和信息产业部颁布的《中等职业学校计算机应用与软件技术专业领域技能型紧缺人才培养培训指导方案》编写，是中等职业学校计算机技术专业教材。本书采用的数据库软件是目前应用广泛的Access 2003数据库。主要内容包括数据库设计概述，使用Access数据库进行应用程序开发的过程，创建、使用与维护数据库和表，建立查询、数据访问页、窗体、报表、宏和应用程序开发的方法。全书采用项目式教学法，围绕“图书借阅管理系统”组织教学内容，采用课堂操作和案例训练相结合的方式。课堂操作内容相对简单，学生可以根据给出的步骤或在教师指导下通过查阅资料独立完成。案例训练相对较深，但内容详实，操作步骤清晰、详细。书中第8章将前面所有章节的内容贯穿起来，生成一个完整的“图书借阅管理系统”，为学生以后利用Access进行数据库开发打下基础。本书适合中等职业学校计算机应用与软件技术专业学生使用，也可以作为数据库开发培训教材及计算机爱好者学习数据库的参考用书。本书还配有电子教学参考资料包，包括：教学指南、电子教案和习题答案，详见前言。
