　　CleanIntermittentCatheterization（CIC）isamethodofregularlyemptyingthebladderthroughtheurethraorbladderstomausingacatheterundercleanconditions.Itcanpreventbladderoverdistension，treaturinaryincontinence，andpreventkidneydamage.CICissimpletooperateandcanbeperformedbythepatientthemselvesortheirfamilymembersinthecommunityorathome.In1972，LapidesandothersproposedCICforthetreatmentofneurogenicbladder（NB），whichquicklybecamealife-savingtreatmentforpatientswhocouldnotemptytheirbladderautonomously.Aftermorethan40yearsofdevelopment，CIChasbeenrecognizedbytheInternationalContinenceSociety（ICS）asthepreferredtreatmentmethodforbladderemptying.WiththepopularizationofCIC，iteffectivelypreventsvesicoureteralreflux（VUR）andkidneydamageandreducestherateofbladderaugmentationinpatientswithNB. However，inmanycountries，theapplicationofCICisnotyetwide-spread，andtherearenotmanyliteraturereportsonCIC，especiallyinchil-dren.TheEuropeanUrologicalAssociationhasrecommendedthatCICcanstartinnewbornswithNBvoidingdifficulties.TheCICmayaccompanythepatient’slife，startingearlyandgettingusedtoCICearly，whichhelpsthepatientintegrateintosocietyassoonaspossibleandreducetheoccurrenceofpsychologicalproblems.InorderforpatientsortheirfamiliestomasterCIC，relevant training is very important. However， there is still a lack of specializedworksonCICinternationally. Thepublicationofthisbookfillsthegapinthisfield.ThisbookelaboratesonthecontentandclinicalsignificanceofCICfromthreeaspects：thebasicknowledgeandproceduremethodsofCIC，theclini-calapplicationofCIC，andtheevaluationandfollow-upofCICeffects.ThebookincludesthelatestnewconceptsofCIC，suchastheapplicationofblad-dersafecapacityandsafepressure，andtheclinicalapplicationofpartial（morningandevening）CIC，andspecificallyelaboratesonthecontentofchildren’sCIC.
