本书是教育部人文社科基金青年项目“中国古代汉传佛教文献英译研究”的主要研究成果,其内容分为旅顺博物馆藏敦煌写本《六祖坛经》的校写与以此校写为基础的英译两个部分,两个部分采取汉英对照的形式呈现。此外,本书在附录中还提供了敦煌系统《六祖坛经》4个英译本中关键性译文差异的对比分析与评述,以及敦煌系统三个写本《六祖坛经》的部分原始文献图片资料。
