  《中国农业文化概览(英文版)》的编写指导思想就是依托中国农业文化中具有国际影响力和典型、核心的农耕文化思想或现象,循序渐进地引导学生从了解农耕文化到熟知英语表达,再到引发对传统文化现象的思考,最终达到用辩证的观点去看待传统文化现象的目标。基于此,本教材选取了中国农业文化中具有代表性的十个主题作为编写的主要内容,对中国农耕文明的起源、相关的神话传说、农耕思想、传统节日、丝绸之路、瓷器的发展历程还有和我们日常生活密切相关的酒文化和茶文化等话题进行了介绍。同时,本教材在每个单元后面都增设了练习题,包括“判断正误”“填空”“术语解析”“传统文化段落翻译”与“批判性思考”五种题型。练习题的设计遵循了由易到难、由了解认知到辩证思考的编写原则。《中国农业文化概览(英文版)》在选取具体的内容方面充分考虑到了学生的兴趣,比如有关神农氏的传说、具有中国农业百科全书称号的《齐民要术》、古代的丝绸之路、古代庙会的现代演变、古代婚礼的三书六聘、喝酒与饮茶的礼节以及二十四节气的由来等。这些内容可以激发学生对用英语学习农耕文化的内在动机,帮助学生更好地用英语讲好中国的农耕文化故事
