《大学英语快速阅读阶梯教程（Intermediate）》取材广泛，内容丰富，力求多样化，多层次、多方位地展示英美文化，兼顾趣味性和实用性。同时，文章的语言真实、地道，富有时代气息，读来令人耳目一新。教材的编写遵循理论与实践相结合的原则，分为两大部分：第一部分讲授快速阅读常用技能，第二部分为快速阅读综合技能训练。阅读训练部分总体上根据文章的语言和内容从易到难、由浅入深地进行编排。每册书共十个训练单元，每个单元包含两篇阅读文章，每篇文章后配有两项练习，文章话题各异，建议教师根据教学的实际情况和具体需要选择其中一篇课内使用，一篇课外使用。配套练习形式多样，包含各项快速阅读基本技能的训练，又与大学英语四、六级考试快速阅读题型相结合，尤其注重寻读、略读等快速阅读技能。
