从培养新闻从业者的角度看,要会采集和传播新闻和信息,首先要会看新闻、读新闻。专业新闻从业者的职业要求从根本上讲就是要全面、客观、及时、公正地报道新闻事件。但是,我们知道,一个新闻从业者由于各自的政治环境、受教育的背景和政治倾向的不同,都会有一定的价值取向,而这种价值取向会渗透在新闻稿件之中。有一位法国新闻学者就说过,任何新闻稿件都渗透着政治和文化色彩。鉴于这一点,读新闻并不是一件简单的事,不仅需要掌握新闻的本质特点,而且还需要具备批判性思维的能力。要达到这样的目的,学习新闻传播专业的学生就需要广泛地阅读新闻,尤其是外语新闻。只有这样,他们才会培养自己“窥一斑而见全豹”的能力。这与《高等学校英语专业英语教学大纲》的要求是契合的。根据《大纲》的要求英语教育需要处理好专业课与素质教育之间的关系,不仅要训练语言技能、传授专业知识,还要注重培养学生的思维能力、创新能力、分析问题能力、独立提出见解的能力。可以说,就培养思辨能力而言,新闻稿件是理想的素材之一。从以上简要的阐述可以看出,采集和撰写新闻需要专业知识并有职业上的要求,读懂和理解新闻同样需要丰富的知识和判读分析能力。那么怎么能真正地把新闻读懂,把新闻读明白,这就需要专家学者的指导和自身的学习和思考。我很高兴看到《英语报刊阅读:跨文化交际与批判性思维》这本教材。这是国内第一部从培养学生跨文化交际能力和批判性思维能力入手而撰写的英语新闻阅读教材。这本教材围绕编写者提出的两个基本任务,设计了各个环节,目的明确,在体例上有很大的创新。这种尝试值得肯定。读懂和读好新闻的目的是要培养新闻院校学生采集和撰写新闻的能力。从培养年轻的新闻从业者的角度看,作者期待这本教材将会起到独特和有效的作用。
作者简介
刘琛,北京外国语大学英语学院跨文化研究中心主任、博士、副 教授、中国跨文化交际学会常务理事、中国高校影视传播 学会青年研究会理事,主要从事跨文化传播研究。主持完成多项国家社科基金项目,出版著作两部,主编译丛一部。论文From ‘Your Window on China’to‘Your Window on China and the World’:The Transformation of China’s Television Cultural Ideology Since 1978获“亚洲——太平洋传播学会”年度最佳论文奖。曾获得国务院新闻办等部门颁发的全国优秀论文奖等。
