  On October 19-21, 2008, the Tenth International Symposium on Structural Engineeringfor Young Experts (ISSEYE-10) was held at the Hunan University, Changsha,ER.China. The symposium was organized by Hunan University, in collaboration withCentral South University and was sponsored by the National Natural ScienceFoundation of China (NSFC).ISSEYE has been held regularly approximately every 2 years in major cities ofChina since 1990. The previous nine events were successfully held in Leshan, Harbin,Shanghai, Beijing, Shenyang, Kunming, Tianjin, Xi'an and Fuzhou in 1990, 1992,1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006, respectively. Throughout the years, theISSEYE symposium series has become a major platform for academic exchangesamong domestic and oversea young researchers, engineers working in the field relatedto structural engineering. The current symposium was the milestone tenth anniversaryof the ISSEYE series.
