穿破裤子的慈善家

　　本书可以说是社会主义文学的前驱.作者于1906年开始写作，1910年写成。作品以建筑工人的生活为材料，塑造了工人和雇主两组人物，以表现当时的社会问题。小说描写了工人对自己手艺的由衷热爱与资本家追求利润的利已心理的冲突，以及工人在贫困、失业和病痛中表现的幽默感和生命力，爱护老人儿童的人道主义品质。作者还运用巧妙的艺术手法宣传和解释了社会主义思想以及工人的斗争。
