About the Author

Associate Professor of Nanjing University, Zhao Qingqing serves as a board member of the World Chinese Literature Academy of China, committee member of the Society for Chinese Canadian Literature Studies and editing committee member of Chinese Literature in World Daily. She is also a member of the Chinese Canadian Writers’ Association and the Chinese Pen Society of Canada.

She holds an MA in English and American Literature from Nanjing University and an MA in Comparative Literature from the University of Alberta. Her publications include Unchained Maple Melody: Interviews with the Chinese Canadian Writers, Stars over the Rostrum, several translated books, and many articles in addition to a few co-compiled award-winning dictionaries. As a planner and translator for Flying Tigers Books, she has produced serial interviews with Flying Tigers, Chinese and foreign pilots who fought against Japanese invaders during World War II.

She has participated in the writing of History of Sino-Foreign Literary Exchanges, a project supported by the National Social Sciences Fund of China, and has directed the writing of History of Chinese Canadian Literature as a project supported by the Humanities and Social Sciences Fund of the Ministry of Education of China, and she was invited by the Radio Canada International to talk about Chinese Canadian literature.

Her honors include Special Award for Canadian Studies and Project Development Grant from the Canadian government, China-Canada Scholars Exchange Program, Annual Best Essay in China,China’s Award for Excellent Translation of Canadian Studies, Excellent Evaluation by China’s Ministry of Higher Education, Teaching and Research Awards of Nanjing University, and the Excellence Scholarship from the University of Alberta.
