Abstract

The thesis from the intellectual’s modernity experience,they will be viewed as have deeply experience in the transformation from traditional to modern society,have myth and anxiety to the traditional and modern thought. The thesis emphasize the role of the intellectual,particularly the Chinese intellectual’s characteristic and their situation,in order to explore the inner spirit between the intellectual and local literature,that is,the mental image when they shape farmer figure,write local history and culture.

The introduction analysis the metaphors of the social and spiritual phenomenon in modern situation—the ubiquitous stranger and the nostalgia of thought,and make a comprehensive review of the research status on the local literature.

The first chapter from the point of social,economy,politics,revolution,culture,literature,illustrates the re-discovery of local China,the understanding of “local property” is seen as the beginning of cultural consciousness. Run through the writer’s modernity experience in different generation,see local literature as the intellectual’s spirit return and the cognition,comprehension and imagination of the modernity;and the unique expression of the Chinese modernity experience that is different from the written style of the western modernity.

The second chapter examines the interaction between the farmer image and the intellectual’s owe image. Not only discover the intellectual’s adherent enlightenment thought that an existed discourse pattern of overlooking the village and farms in the long time,but also impose their spirit assumptions and expectations on farms. At the same time,when they see themselves,also found that the traditional consciousness has not abandoned.

The third chapter examines the association between the narration of Chinese local history and the intellectual’s discourse plight. The discourse of writing history has intellectual discourse,politic discourse and local discourse. Different discourse mean different history view:progress of reason,materialism,cycle,desire. And their discourse plight lies in the diversion of the historical consciousness,and can’t stand on a higher point to understand the process of local modernity in more than 100 years.

The fourth chapter examines the intellectual’s humanistic thought in writing of local culture,and the different culture image. From the intellectual’s point,natural and wild force,self-sufficient and comfortable that fit perfectly on the earth that can be seen as the aesthetic life style. And in the state of post local era that has been broken,Jia Pingwa from “decadent city” to “decadent local”,pay attention to local’s living situation and culture risk. Han Shaogong has retired to the country,doing farm work in sunning and reading in raining,and enjoying the local society in the modern civilization. Zhang Wei from the attitude of integrating into the wilderness,insist on the moral and point of the humanistic spirit,folk earth has been his territory of writing and spiritual comfort.

The fifth chapter discusses the paradox and value anomie of the local composition that resulted from the intellectual’s expression,analysis on the view of local literature extinction in the social transition,reflect on the folk and folk standpoint since the 1990’s,and put forward the view that writer should establish their particular local world.

From the writer’s literature creation,we can not only feel the country experience in their inner life,the intellectual’s feeling and responsibility,the complex relationship and emotion between the intellectual’s and local,the tradition and farms. But also see their reflection on society and culture,criticism,or nostalgia,in the situation of country’s material and spirit under the modern environment—in the perspective of they enter country,the local literature show not only the individual spirit,but also full of reason and philosophy deeply.
